THE
HISTORY OF APRIL FOOLS DAY
There is no set date of when April Fools
Day first started - but in the 16th century
the 1st of April was the first day of spring
and often considered the start of the New
Year. When the calendar was developed New
Year celebrations were moved to January
1st but some obstinate people still celebrated
on April 1st. These people were thought
to be silly because it wasn't the correct
date. They were said to be "fools"
and pranks were played on them.
APRIL
FOOLS IN SUNSET COVE
There are always
jokers in society and Sunset Cove is no
different. The biggest prankster in Sunset
Cove is believe it or not - Coach Shane.
Although he loves himself to bits he can't
resist playing jokes on other people.
Coach Shane's Mum
was wearing her best white shirt one April
Fools Day - Coach Shane sprayed ink all
over it! Lucky it was invisible ink and
was gone within a few seconds.
He's also placed fake
spiders in Violet Profusions draw - told
Vita that she had won the lottery and pretended
he was dead!
In Sunset Cove everyone
surfs. There are nuns that surf and grandmothers
that surf. One year in Sunset Cove the local
radio station put out an urgent news bulletin
telling everyone that surfing had been banned
in Sunset Cove until further notice. Everyone
was flabergasted! They later retracted the
statement reminding everyone they'd been
"April Fooled".
Some people don't
take "fools" very well. Sophie
had a prank played on her one year and the
boy who did it never forgot. Sophie was
so enraged that she sent her poltergeist
to teach him a lesson. He ended up suspended
by his underwear on the school roof. Sophie
didn't keep him there for long and he apologised.
So remember, April
Fools Day is a great day to play harmless
pranks but make sure the person can take
a joke.
